Anyone who spends any amount of time with me knows that I am always promoting easy ways to overcome rounded shoulders and “the slouch”. This week’s blog continues in our Small Muscles, Big Impact series.
Let’s look at the posterior shoulder muscles that are responsible for maintaining strong posture and good alignment of the shoulders. These muscles are the Deltoid (posterior fibers), the Infraspinatus and the Teres Minor. Check out the attached pictures to see where these muscles are on your body. The posterior shoulder muscles are responsible for pulling the arm back in the horizontal plane as well as rotating the arm backward (external rotation). These are the very actions that prevent rounded shoulders.
There are so many exercises and stretches you can do to prevent rounded shoulders. I have included some of my favorites because they are easy to do everyday and anywhere.
