Often people misunderstand the role of the shoulder girdle. You hear your Pilates teacher say “keep your shoulder blades away from your ears”. This is often misunderstood and people inhibit the natural movement of these bones. Proper shoulder girdle movement enhances the range of motion of the arm. We don’t want to create stiffness and rigidity in the joints but rather congruency; stability and mobility in perfect balance for optimal range of motion and function.
