Where are you from?
Windham CT, then Syracuse NY for 2 years, then Marlborough.
Favorite food to prepare or eat?
I love to cook authentic foods from different cultures. My favorite is Mexican and Lebanese (I am part Lebanese), I also love to cook Chinese.
Favorite sports team?
Any team my kids are playing on.
Why did you choose to practice pilates?
I have been teaching various forms of exercise for over 30 years. 13 years ago I had an abdominal surgery and experienced back pain for the first time. My abs were “gone” after being cut through. I did crunches and every other exercise I had been taught and been teaching to others but I wasn’t getting my core back. After I took a Pilates workshop for CEC credits I started practicing the mat work. I got my abs back within a month. I was as strong as before I had my kids. That’s when I decided to focus solely on teaching Pilates and go for full certification so I could help others experience the same thing.
Is there something about you that would surprise the students that have attended your classes?
Teaching Pilates lends itself to teachers and clients getting to know one another and I am an open book, but it might surprise people to know that I have had 3 abdominal surgeries and a major back injury that left me in bed for 2.5 months (I couldn’t be up for more than 1 minute without unbearable pain) and in continued (but gradually less) pain for a year and a half…yet here I am still doing Pilates, dancing and being active.
What is your favorite song / favorite group or favorite genre of music?
I enjoy a variety of genres but my favorite decade of music is definitely 80s.
Favorite Pilates exercise and why?
Can I really pick just 1 favorite?? I love Torso Press back on the Pilates Chair. It really opens up the chest and counteracts the rounded shoulders we end up with during the day. I hop on the chair and do a few whenever I can. I also need bend and stretch on the Tower daily. Nothing releases my lower back like that series.
