Pilates can be done on the floor on a mat using nothing but your own body weight and gravity as resistance. Or Pilates can be done on specialized equipment with funny names like Reformer, Cadillac/Tower, and Wunda Chair. Ideally your Pilates workout routine will utilize all the equipment and the mat for the best results. Sometimes I want to do the Mat exercises because they are challenging and it’s just me and my body. Sometimes I need to be on the Reformer, Wunda Chair or Tower. Maybe my back is tight or I really want to challenge my balance. Sometimes my body is out of synch or my mental focus is off and the equipment helps me perform the exercises with proper alignment and good form.
Pilates is such a versatile workout. It is great for someone just getting into an exercise routine and it’s great for someone who is an athlete or avid exerciser. When you contact a Pilates studio or Teacher to inquire about trying Pilates, let them know what your goals are. Let them know what your current fitness level is. If you have any injuries let them know that too. The more they know about you before your session, the better they can plan the session to meet your goals and needs.
Pilates improves your posture, strengthens your entire body especially your core. Pilates makes you feel good, it’s fun and makes your body feel better. You will gain flexibility and lose stress.
