In my expert opinion (28 years in the field), the answer is yes. At least here in Central/Eastern CT. You might not find Pilates Teacher jobs posted on google or on job listing sites because Pilates is a different type of industry. We are a client based industry. Where there are clients and potential clients there are jobs and potential jobs. You just need vision to see it. My studio is the only one in our town. Of the four towns directly bordering us, three do not have any Pilates Studios. Those towns are not far from us, so it is completely reasonable that people living in those towns would come to Marlborough to take Pilates classes. What about your town? How many Pilates studios are there? How about in the towns surrounding you? Now look around at your community.
- Are there people living near you? (rhetorical question).
- Do they take Pilates classes yet?
- Are you a parent? if so, think about the other parents around you at school functions.
- Do they take Pilates yet? No?…ok, there’s your potential job.
I can say for sure that there are potential Pilates Teacher jobs at my studio. We have not yet reached everyone in this town and the surrounding towns. There are many more people who need what we offer and there is time and space available to meet their needs and goals. It’s kind of like the chicken and the egg. Which comes first? First comes the Pilates teacher, then comes the Pilates Teacher job. Without the teacher first, there can be no job. Go for it, get the training. The very best training you can get. It will be worth it. You can work part time or full time. Either way you will get a return on your investment both monetarily and otherwise.
If you need more inspiration, please read my testimony below about how I started and grew my Pilates studio.
I started my Pilates studio with 1 client who came to my home for a private session. I cleared out my living room and bought 6 mats and a Pilates Chair. I spread the word with simple advertising tools. I got a magnet for my car for $80 that had my studio name and phone number. I bought an advertising banner to support the local High School Sports team. It was hung on the fence around the school’s fields. Word spread quickly and I gradually gained more clients. I bought 6 Towers and stayed in my home studio for 3 years until we outgrew the 300 square feet of living room space I had converted. We moved to a bigger studio space in the center of town put a big sigh out front and bought more equipment. the word spread and more people came. I needed more teachers so I started a teacher training program to help fill the need. We now have 5 teachers and the potential is still there for more. As long as there are people who need Pilates, there is a need for well trained Pilates Teachers. Not everyone wants to own a studio, but if there is a studio near you that you could work at, you’ll be all set. You just need to gather clients and voila, you have a Pilates Teacher job.
So yes, you might not see Pilates Teacher jobs posted online in your city, but that means nothing. We all know that people are more and more focused on health and wellbeing. People want an exercise program that doesn’t beat the body up but rather builds the body up.
