I think if I had to choose, it would be Tower. The Tower stretches me, lengthens me and helps me release hard to release areas of tension within my body. It is simple and straight forward with fewer moving parts. I can use the springs to assist me or to challenge the strength of my arms and legs. For me, the Tower addresses my muscle imbalances really well as well as targets my postural needs.
Many people would say Reformer because it is so versatile and that’s true too. The Reformer has many of the same benefits of the Tower. Honestly I am so glad that I don't have to choose because each piece of equipment has it’s own unique benefits and a well rounded Pilates practice is meant to incorporate all the equipment. I can’t imagine not being able to drape over the Ladder Barrel when my back feels tight, or hang and pull up on the Trapeze Table.. When I am feeling slouched and tight in my chest, I get on the Pilates Chair for Torso Press Back. I can go on and on but you get the idea.
Let’s not forget that all of us have daily access to the Mat. Never underestimate the power of the Mat. The Mat is not glamorous and has no “bells and whistles” but it gives you an amazing workout. In fact I find the complete repertoire of Pilates Mat exercises to be the most challenging workout of all. It does require motivation and discipline though.
The good news is that you have access to all the equipment by participating regularly in group classes and private sessions at Marlborough Pilates Studio Plus. You can maintain a well rounded Pilates practice getting the many benefits of all the equipment.
